We Help Our Community's Students Succeed Through Scholarships
WHO APPLIES FOR A CANTON DOLLARS FOR SCHOLARS SCHOLARSHIP?
Canton Dollars for Scholars focuses on helping a wide range of students living in Canton or attending Canton High School achieve their goals of higher education. We are looking for the well-rounded student who is doing their personal academic best and is involved in school and community service. Canton Dollars for Scholars has an opportunity for nearly every student.
Are you a high school senior who lives in Canton, Connecticut or goes to Canton High School? Then you can apply for a scholarship from Canton Dollars for Scholars. You do NOT have to have top grades to apply for an award! We try to reach as many students as possible who are service-minded, ethical and pursuing higher education, whether it's at a traditional two- or four-year college or university, a vocational or trade school, or a certificate program. It does not matter whether you attend our district public schools, a private or parochial school, or are home-schooled. CDFS uses an anonymous, weighted system to award our scholarships most fairly.
Canton Dollars for Scholars is our local chapter of the national organization Scholarship America. In 1958, Dr. Irving Fradkin, an optometrist from Fall River, Massachusetts, founded Dollars for Scholars as a challenge to his fellow Fall River residents to each contribute one dollar toward a fund for all of the community's youth to attend college. For over 50 years and counting, Dollars for Scholars/Scholarship America has been helping students of all levels and aspirations to pursue education beyond high school. Our Canton chapter was founded in 1986, and to date has awarded over $1,000,000 in scholarships.
Besides scholarship opportunities, we also offer volunteer positions for all grade levels that will certainly look great on students' activity sheets! Adult volunteers are also definitely needed as we look to sustain and expand our student outreach.
